Cornerstone Indicators

Contextual and holistic measures of wellbeing

Cornerstone Indicators is an open-source framework that reimagines metrics and indicators as tools for radical civic empowerment. The method uses workshops, data analysis and engaging visuals to create success measures grounded in the visions and priorities of a community.

I worked with Dark Matter Labs to realize a pilot project in the neighborhood of Milton-Parc. Resulting Indicators are tools that anyone can leverage for local organizing and political advocacy.

When

Nov 2023 - Nov 2024 (1 year, part-time)

Where

Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, Canada

Themes

alter-economics

Cornerstone Indicators challenge the idea that financial growth is a proxy for wellbeing and offer a means for measuring value beyond GDP. In doing so, they help communities shift economies toward regenerative, non-exploitative futures.

self-determination

By surfacing locally-defined priorities, Cornerstone Indicators enable communities to reclaim decision-making power and align local development with their cultural, social, and ecological contexts. Communities can use them to plot their own directions rather than conforming to external expectations.
